Kybella is a prescription medicine used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called “double chin.”

What does it feel like?

Kybella is injected with a micro-needle into the fat under the chin.  The treatment usually lasts about 30 minutes and we have patients come in to numb 30 minutes before treatment. We use topical numbing cream and apply it to the area where the Kybella will be injected.

How does it work?

The active ingredient in Kybella is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.

When will I see the results?

The immediate reaction to having Kybella injected under the chin is swelling. After a few days the swelling goes down and returns to the normal state it was before the injection. Over time the fat cells start to disintegrate and you begin to see the results of the injection after two treatments.  For optimal results we recommend at least 3-4 treatments spaced a month apart
